Dell moves the webcam to where it always should have been, fixing one of the very few faults of the drop-dead gorgeous, highly capable XPS 13. Earning our highest recommendation and a rare five-star rating, the XPS 13 (9380) is, indisputably, the best ultraportable laptop you can buy.

Pros
  • Compact and classy
  • Beautiful rose-gold-and-white color scheme
  • 4K touch screen
  • Two Thunderbolt 3 ports plus USB-C
Cons
  • No HDMI or USB Type-A ports
  • 4K display isn’t the best for battery life
  • Loaded models get pricey

The Dell XPS 13 was already the best laptop. Now it’s nearly perfect.

The new Dell XPS 13 answers a lot of the problems we had with the original. It shows the company is willing to take feedback, then actually do something about it. That’s commendable. On top of that, the new XPS 13 doesn’t compromise any of the things it did well in past iterations. It might not be perfect, but it’s as close as we’ve seen so far.

Pros
  • Sleek design
  • New colorways are great
  • Webcam repositioned without thick bezels
  • Redesigned hinge opens easily
  • Speedy, ultrabook performance
Cons
  • Reduced battery life

Dell has gone and made just about every possible improvement to the XPS 13 in 2019. The webcam is in the proper position and no worse in quality for what it took to get there. Better yet, battery life has seen a sizable improvement as well.

This has happened all the while everything else about the laptop has maintained its storied, incredible quality, from the chassis design to the power profile of the components inside. This is the same laptop as last year, only better.

The Dell XPS 13 remains among the very best the world over.

Pros
  • Webcam now above display
  • Big battery life boost
  • Updated processors
  • New Frost color option
Cons
  • Otherwise tiny update

The Dell XPS 13 was already a great laptop and Dell has made some welcome improvements to remain our favorite ultraportable overall. The addition of Intel Whiskey Lake cements the XPS 13’s status as a mobile powerhouse. And when you’re not crunching the numbers, that vivacious 4K display is perfect for watching video. We especially like the itty-bitty webcam, killing the nosecam forever.

While the battery life on the 4K display model could be better, the Dell XPS 13 continues to be a top pick.

Pros
  • Slim, lightweight design
  • Strong performance
  • Gorgeous 4K display
  • InfinityEdge bezels with properly placed webcam
Cons
  • Below-average battery life
